Those that know me, even a little bit, know that I always have an opinion and I’m not afraid to voice it. Even (or especially) if my opinion is counter to popular opinion or at least, the popular opinion of my tribe; The liberal, left-wing tribe.
My fellow tribe members are abhorred when I say that the death penalty should be an option for cases of terror or especially heinous murders. (Actually, I would prefer that it actually doesn’t get to trial. Sometimes things just happen in battle. Oh well) And did I cop it when I dared to agree that Trump did the right thing by actually admitting that Israel’s capital is Jerusalem. And pulled out of that atrocious deal that Obama did with the Iranians, essentially throwing Israel under the bus. But what do you expect from someone who blames all of the ills of the middle-east on the settlements in the west bank? So in keeping with my true blueneckness, I don’t conform to standard left-wing rhetoric and self-righteous “I know better and anyone who doesn’t agree with me must be a primitive boor”. Look at the cancel culture that is so rife in the world today.
Yet I have trouble understanding right wing standpoints. A government doesn’t have the right or responsibility to look after its citizens? A woman can’t control what to do with her own body? And doesn’t deserve the same pay as a male co-worker, if both do the same job? I have the right to tell someone else who and how to love and how to identify him/herself?* Come on…can someone please explain how what appears obvious to me isn’t obvious. Please. Because I truly don’t get it. Unless of course, God has instructed us that this is the way. Now don’t get me started on that one.
I always welcome discourse and response, because not everyone agrees with me. If they did, I’d have to find a different view.
*I’m a little extreme about this. It actually doesn’t interest me at all who you sleep with or your gender identify. Just don’t shove it in my face. It’s none of my business.
